Unlock V600i Vodafone Edition

V600iI was very blessed this week. Not only did I get my replacement iPod yesterday, today my dear sister gave me her new Vodafone Sony Ericsson V600i 3G phone. Vodafone Australia’s trying to get everyone on to 3G, and are practically giving this phone away to any of their existing customers who ask for one.

My sister’s happy with her Motorola Razor, and seeing that I’ve had no luck with my mobile phone, she gave me hers. I’m currently using a Vodafone Sharp GX30i, but I’m on the Optus network. How I got stuck with that phone’s a very long story not worth repeating, but basically I’m stuck with Simplus, an Optus reseller, to November 2006 so it’ll be a while before I can kiss Optus goodbye.

Anyway, apart from the Vodafone branding, and how common the phone was, the V600i was pretty cool. I charged it up, then inserted my Optus sim card, and was greeted by “Insert correct sim card”. The V600i was locked to the Vodafone network, and could only be used by Vodafone sim cards.

Now this wouldn’t be new news to our friends in the US, who are used to having their phones locked to their carrier, but in Australia it’s unheard of. Already having the stupid Vodafone branding all over the phone and within the phone’s software is bad enough, but not being able to use it with another carrier just plain stinks.

Fortunately, there was a sticker on the box that said Vodafone would give you the unlock code for free simply by logging on to the web site. But the blasted Vodafone web site doesn’t make it easy to find a link to the page you need.

So here it is.
http://www.vodafone.com.au/unlock

My sister’s going to get the code and I’ll enter it once I get it. Stay tuned.

  1. hi,
I have had the exact same problem with my new v600i from Vodafone. ( I am Optus as well). I did find the link on the site, but they say it takes 2 days or so, I was hoping to get this phone up and running by the weekend, doesnt look like it now :’(
I was just wondering if you could let me know what the unlock number is.

    Thanks
    Alex

  2. Hey Alex,

Sorry for the late reply. The number’s always different for everyone as it’s based on the IMEI code. But the form does give you the number right away. Try to go to the same page again and fill in the details… you should then get the unlock code as well as instructions on how to enter it!

  3. Hey Bruno. Here’s how to unlock the phone… DISCLAIMER: I’m assuming you have the right codes for your specific IMEI code belonging to your phone, and I won’t be held responsible should you want to go ahead with it.

First, insert the sim card. You should get this message “Insert correct SIM card”. This is because your phone is locked to the network that you bought the phone from.

Then, press <, *, < and the unlock menu will show up. You get 2 options. Choose Network. You’ll then be asked to enter the ?NCK? (network unlock code). Enter the one you have, which should be 16 digits long.

Supposedly, you only get 5 attempts! So make sure you enter it correctly.

  4. hi,
i’m from scotland and i stumbled across ur site when i was looking for the codes for my v600i, i was wondering if you could suggest a link or something for me because the link at the top of the page doesn’t work for me.

    thanks
    Gary

  5. Hiya Gary,

That link is for phones purchased from Vodafone in Australia only. Have no idea if there’s an equivalent in Scotland for you, but if you do a google/ebay search on “unlocking v600i”, you may be able to find vendors in your area that will unlock the phone for a fee. This would probably void any warranty you have on your phone so err on the side of caution and only go with someone reputable.

  6. hi.
i have a sony ericsson v600i and need a nck code, where I can find this.
    Tanks

  7. Hey Jason,

I’m an American who lived and studied in Sydney for the last 2 years, where I bought my SE V600i. I’ve only just returned to the states this week and was buggered to find that my phone was locked to Vodafone after spending hours finding a new SIM card. Anyways, I did a google search and found your site and link, thank you so much!! I just sent my unlock request and hopefully it will all work out in the end. Hate the thought of getting a new phone!

    Cheers mate!

  8. Hey Jason,

Thanks you so much, I had much the same deal as the rest of the people who have contacted you with a locked V600i and an Optus sim.
Your Info should hopefully saved me from buying a new phone will know in 2 days I guess.

    so again many thanks

  9. Hey Linh & Warren,

I didn’t post an update but basically what happened was I waited for a week and I didn’t hear from Vodafone. My bro-in-law then submitted the request again and immediately the unlock code, together with full instructions on how to unlock the phone appeared on another page. I was able to unlock the phone after that, and now I have it working with Optus.

Great thing is when you accidentally press those pesky Connect to Vodafone portal buttons, you don’t go anywhere!

  10. hey hey!

i was waiting 2 days for the email with the unlock code. but then i just went back to the site and only filled in my IMEI code and password and in the next page were the unlock code and instructions.

good luck everyone and thanks jason!

  11. hi.

i have done that online unlock form so many bloody times with no reply of the unlock code, i have spoken to vodafone directly and they say i have to either fill the form out, or snail mail them. :@

  12. hey

i just bought a sony ericsson Z520i, after knowing that vodafone provide the unlock codes free of charge (unlike almost all current optus, virgin and telstra phones… you have to pay them if your phone is locked).

    BUT

    the web page (http://unlock.vodafone.com.au/HL/jsp/UnlockRequest.jsp)
    DOSEN’T LOAD!!!

I decided, since you could unlock your phone on the net, why not over the phone? (land-line) So, i called their number, greeted by a recording and told by a recording that i was to either go to the website (which didnt work) or mail them.

Does anyone remember a few years back in QLD when the Courier Mail sent out free Vodafone SIM cards? Well, i still had one of them in my little stash of crap, so at least i can turn the phone on and play with it - GRR

Snail-mail for me.. unless they fix it

  13. i have a nokia 3320 and its locked to optus. i was wondering if any1 would kno a code plz

  14. Crystal,

You may want to try your local mobile phone shop to see if they can help. If you’re in Sydney, try Chinatown. Lots of places there should be able to unlock it for a fee.

    Chris,

Sorry for the late reply. I tried the site myself and yes it serves only a blank page! Vodafone must have taken it off-line on purpose. Hope you get to hear from them soon.

  15. t costs $80 to get it unlocked from a shop….im in SA

  16. Hey Crystal,

I did a search on Google and found this link… http://www.peters1.dk/webtools/nokia/nokiaonline.php?sprog=en

Not sure if the guy is legit, but apparently he has a web tool that will give you the unlock code for free!

As I said, I’m not sure if he’s legit. Not sure if it’s a hoax, or if he can do something with your IMEI #, so be very, very careful. No one will be held responsible should things go wrong.

  17. ok thanks ill giv him my old ph IMEI# 2 c if anythin goes wrong wit it but thanks

  18. I really need to figure out an unlock code or NCK for my SE V600i. It is on Cingular, and I purchased another Cingular SIM, but the idiots have locked the phones even to their own network, which seems really rediculous to me. Anyway, I know that the NCK number is digits 41-48 of the ME number, but I don’t know how to retrieve either one, within the phone or with an online generator. I hope there is some way to unlock without a cable. PLEASE HELP any way you can. I’m sure some genious out there has come up with a way to generate these codes–I just need to find them!
    Thank you in advance!!!

    Leah

  21. Sameer,

I did not email you at all because I do not have the codes. I have edited your comment and taken out your serial number details of your phone.

The good news is Vodafone’s site appears to be up, so go to this link and give it a go.
    http://unlock.vodafone.com.au/HL/jsp/UnlockRequest.jsp

  22. i’ve bought also the v600i and tried to use it on the optus 3g network. it’s not working. the gsm is working properly but as soon as i switch on the phone, the 3g symbol disappears and i couldn’t use 3g from optus. what a crap. vodafone.au is crap! i’ve waited 3 fucking weeks for the unlock code.

  23. I have an V600i locked to telenor(old vodafone), hov do i get the NCK code???
I now everything else I need to no but I only need this NCK code!!

  24. i recently lost my k608i which was on the 3mobile network, and they are sending me out a new sim card. i managed to get hold of a v608i, which appears to be the same phone with different branding ( vodaphone). Anyway, do you think i will be able to use this handset with my exsisting/new sim
card on 3?… tried checking it online and one place said “we do not offer the Sony Ericsson V600i Unlock service on the 3 network.”… would that be refering to unlocking a phone to use on 3, or a 3 phone to use with a different sim card..?

  25. Hi Rob,

I don’t think you’ll be able to use the phone on 3 without unlocking. Your best bet is to try to get the person who gave you the v608i to get the unlock code from Vodafone.

People I know have still been trying to get the unlock codes from Vodafone without much success unfortunately.

  26. Hey, i have managed to unlock mine and have moved to the 3 network. Now I am unable to view any mobile internet or use video calls. does any one have any suggestions here?

  27. hey,
Im having trouble unlocking a v600i from the uk. Been to a couple of stores of which one said “the software was too tempermantal for them to do anything with,” and the other said ” its not possible to unlock a 3G phone.” Both sound a bit silly to me…? is it best to do it via an unlock code… ? however, they seem quite hard to get hold of, or am i better off sending it away, finding a store that can do it, or buying one of the advertised Sony-Ericsson T28 SERIAL Service/Unlock cable , tho im not sure what they are?
    thanks in advance.

  28. hey
i need to unlock my V600i but i am from ireland and your link is only for australian customers not for ie customers please help me .thanks a lot

  29. Vodafone Ireland will unlock your ~V600i for you once you have spent enough credit.

  30. Cheers Jason, filled out their marketing BS and got the code second time I filled in the form. Thanks buddy, keep up the good work.

  31. Hi
I have v600i, how can i go to the unlock menu ?

  32. I do unlock the sonyericsson v600i , but i get this massage “Inactive SIM”.
My SIM card works correctly with other phons.
    please help me.

  33. Reza,

Sorry for the late reply. A friend just told me that the reason why your sim card may not work, even though your v600i has been unlocked, could be because it’s an old sim card, that the phone may not support. My sim card is around 2 years old, and it works with the phone.

  34. Hi jason!!
I bought a New Nokia 6280 from Vodafone a week back. I knew i could unlock it from them so filled out the form from vodafone.. Then i unlocked my phone and hurray it did work on my optus sim.. Then things went on good for 3 days and suddenly i started receiving calls in my home Phone from my friends saying that something is wrong with my mobile.. I tried calling other people but the only message i hear till today is sorry, ure phone has been locked on the optus network. for further information please call 1300305030.. i got furious and called the number and the operator says nothing wrong.. she asked to call vodafone as it was their phone.. so i called voda.. but the faggets said optus sim.. i mean what the hell should i do.. i wanna be on the optus network,,, and what about my new phone.. help me somebody..

  35. Satty,

What a coincidence. I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. Basically, I could make outgoing calls, but could not receive incoming calls. I called up Simplus, who’s an Optus reseller, and they got me to punch a couple of numbers onto my phone to cancel all diverts. I don’t bother using Voicemail either. Have a look in your phone and see if you can cancel all diverts. You should be able to set things up to divert to voice mail if you wish. Hope it helps.

  44. I bought a SonyEricsson k600i from ebay. It was one of many being sold from Victoria. Even though it was said to have been not opened, the box showed signs of being so.

So the phone is network unlocked and my Vodafone SIM works fine. The phone was it appears sold from Optus shops. The Optus Zoo splash screen and the Optus MyZoo connection icon appears on the screen. How do I get rid of these Optus branded icon and either go to the Sony defaults or even the menus that apper on the Vodafone version the V660i of the phone/

    this is for the site-

    http://support.gsmliberty.net/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=3

A Your phone’s IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity)
number is an international “Serial number” for your phone to
    properly identify it.

Your IMEI can be found at the back of your phone behind the
battery or by pressing *#06#* it is a 15 digit number.

NOTE: If your phone prints out more than 15 digits for your IMEI , please only supply us with the first 15 digits the phone provides, no dashes or space. The remaining numbers are unimportant as they are just checksum numbers.
